“You just know that everybody’s looking at me to be the guy, to make everything work. To me, that’s not pressure. But I just echo it to everyone else that it’s not just me. People will say it’s me and I’ll get all the blame and all the fame, but it’s the guys around me that make me great.”

-Robert Griffin III

Captain Rookie?

Mike Shanahan, head coach of the Washington Redskins, says it’s the first time he’s had a rookie as a team leader. Griffin’s teammates, on Washington’s offense, voted yesterday to make their young quarterback the team captain for the rest of the 2012 NFL football wagering season.

Griffin told a YouWager news source that he feels “even hungrier” after a few days off. As if he could hear sportsbook bettors asking the top question on their minds, Griffin spoke about how disappointed he is that he won’t get to play against Michael Vick when the Redskins take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. In his short professional career, Griffin has already been compared to the hottest young quarterbacks in the league, of course. An NFL analyst at YouWager says that Michael Vick is the guy that comes up most often in these assessments. Vick said he was looking forward to playing against Griffin, too.

This would have happened Sunday. However, with Vick recovering from a concussion injury in Philadelphia’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys, rookie backup quarterback Nick Foles will be under center. Without Vick, the Eagles are currently 3.5 underdogs at YouWager.

Griffin told YouWager’s source, “It’s not a cautionary tale; football’s a violent game. And Vick, he’s been beat up a little bit throughout his career. There’s other quarterbacks that get beat up throughout their careers. There’s a number of quarterbacks right now that are out with concussions, shoulder injuries, anything like that.”

Coach Mike Shanahan admitted that there really isn’t any way to know for certain, if Griffin can avoid a concussion injury. “If anybody could answer that, they’d be pretty smart,” he said. “I don’t know if you can answer that question in the National Football League. You’re always hoping people can stay healthy. I think Robert has gotten much better knowing when to slide, when to throw the ball away.”

When he showed up for practice, Griffin wore mismatched shoes, a red one on his left foot, and a white shoe on the right foot. Griffin explained it this way: “In college I used to wear a white shoe and a black shoe. And the whole message is everybody’s working together. Wednesday, Thursday, the shoes will be different – and Friday we bring it all together and get ready for Sunday.”

On Sunday, the Redskins will be hoping to improve on their 3-6 record –and change their history against the Eagles. In the 2011 NFL football betting season, Philadelphia won both of their contests with Washington. This time, the Redskins are 3.5 favorites at YouWager. The total is 43.5. Game time on Sunday is 1PM Eastern.
