2012 NFL Football Season News at YouWager: Ben Roethlisberger to Start for Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are being real careful about Ben Roethlisberger’s comeback after being absent for three games due to a sprained right shoulder and dislocated rib.

Even when the team confirmed that their star quarterback will return to the starting lineup on Sunday against the San Diego Chargers, Roethlisberger will be taking the field with a little extra protection.

The 30 year-old player will play with a custom fit rib/chest compression shirt and a layer of Kevlar-lined composite in his shoulder pads to help absorb hits to his clavicle and shoulder joint regions, according to what YouWager experts have learned.

Pittsburgh is 14-0 all-time at home against San Diego in the regular NFL season. That’s the best home record for any team vs. an opponent in history.

Whatever he’s wearing, Pittsburgh (7-5) is excited about having the player back on the field. Roethlisberger took “90 percent” of the first-team snaps on Thursday without any major issues.

The Ohio native said he felt “good” but declined to expand. Offensive coordinator Todd Haley doesn’t think there will be any limitations to the playbook, however he joked he might not call as many designed run plays for his quarterback, who never met a play he didn’t like to extend.

The team went 1-2 in Roethlisberger’s absence, including a 23-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens last week behind backup Charlie Batch.
