Longwood Lancers vs. Georgetown Hoyas
Tip-off: Monday, December 10, 2012 – 7:00 PM ET
Verizon Center, Washington, DC
The Georgetown Hoyas basketball team haven’t really impressed many YouWager fans lately. Very close to two ugly wins in its last three games, the Hoyas will try to go for a fifth consecutive victory tonight when it they host the Longwood Lancers.
The 15th-ranked Georgetown (7-1) combined with the Tennessee Volunteers on a woeful shooting display in a 37-36 win Nov. 30, and they were even worse from the field in Saturday’s 46-40 home victory against the Towson Tigers.
The Hoyas shot 36.4 percent against Tennessee while setting a school record for fewest points in the shot-clock era. After a 64-41 victory over the Texas Longhorns on Tuesday, Georgetown hit only 29.2 percent Saturday.
Online sports betting experts point out that the first half against the Longhorns was not good, as they missed 22 of their first 24 shots and went into the break shooting 16.7 percent and leading 17-15.
The Hoyas look like they’re learning the defensive side much more quickly. Georgetown ranks near the top of the country in points-per-game defense (54.1) and are limiting opponents to 36.9 percent shooting.
They have allowed at least 60 points only twice — yielding 70 while beating then-No. 11 UCLA Bruins and 82 in an overtime loss to No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers.
They forced 22 Towson turnovers and held this college basketball team scoreless for the game’s final 4:35. While having difficulties making shots from the field, Georgetown relied on free-throw shooting (16 of 24) to seal the win.
Many of the Lancers’ basketball games haven’t been pretty from the team’s perspective, as they’ve been outscored by an average of 17.6 points while going 2-6.
The school has split their last four games but haven’t come close against upper-tier competition, losing to the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Creighton Blue Jays in November by a combined 97 points. Creighton dropped Longwood to 0-7 all-time against Top 25 rivals.
