Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Missouri Tigers
Tip-off: Tuesday, January 8, 2013 – 7:00 PM ET
Mizzou Arena, Columbia, MO
The Missouri Tigers appears to have benefited from a string of competitive games and now YouWager experts consider the team has the ideal preparation for their inaugural SEC season.
If that is true, the proof might begin to show tonight when the 10th-ranked Missouri welcome the Alabama Crimson Tide to Mizzou Arena for their historic conference opener.
The Tigers’ tune-up for the SEC began when it rallied for an 82-73 win over then-No. 10 Illinois Fighting Illini in St. Louis on Dec. 22. Missouri (11-2) followed with an 97-94 overtime defeat versus the at UCLA Bruinson Dec. 28, a game in which they led by seven with less than four minutes to go in regulation, before getting past visiting Bucknell 66-64 on Saturday.
Phil Pressey, the SEC’s preseason player of the year, scored a career-high 26 points in this weekend’s win after setting a school record with 19 assists in the defeat versus the Bruins.
While the team has a great deal of new players who are still meshing, the Tigers are 8-0 at home and are 75-4 there since the beginning of the 2008-09 season. The Crimson Tide are 1-2 away from home this season and 20-53 since the start of the 2005-06 campaign.
Missouri, who is 41-7 under Haith, will try to show their college basketball fans how good they are beginning with a seemingly winnable game against the Crimson Tide (8-5). Alabama won for only the second time in seven games Saturday, 65-45 versus the visiting Oakland Golden Grizzlies.
The Tide have only one senior, Andrew Steele, who returned from sports hernia surgery in Saturday’s victory, but nearly knocked off then-No. 17 Cincinnati Bearcats on Dec. 1. Alabama fell 58-56 on a buzzer-beating shot and have lost nine straight to ranked teams.
Alabama leads the series 4-1 but the No. 5 Missouri won the most recent meeting over the No. 22 Tide 75-68 on Nov. 20, 2001, in Kansas City.
