Tonight Detroit is likely in an angry mood as it tries to recover from a dull effort and spoil Columbus’ home opener.

The Red Wings fell 6-0 versus the St. Louis Blues on Saturday. The NHL team was outshot 36-14, allowed four power-play goals on five chances and went 0 for 4 with the man advantage.

The Red Wings were blanked in their opener for the first time since the 1958-59 hockey season. Jimmy Howard was pulled after allowing five goals on 28 shots.

Another negative point was that a power play featuring forwards Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk and Johan Franzen with Niklas Kronwall and rookie Damien Brunner at the points only made five shots.

Detroit opened the previous hockey season with five wins and has traditionally dominated the Blue Jackets, winning four of six matchups in 2011-12 behind a team-high nine points from Valtteri Filppula.

The home online sports wagering fans will see a new-look Columbus team, which finished with the worst record in the league in the previous season before trading all-time leading scorer Rick Nash to the New York Rangers in the offseason.

The Blue Jackets got major contributions from their acquisitions in that deal in a 3-2 shootout win versus the Nashville Predators on Saturday.

Artem Anisimov scored a tying goal in the second period and in addition scored in the shootout, while coach Todd Richards was impressed with Brandon Dubinsky’s effort.

Columbus needs other players to step up as they rebuild in absence se of Rick Nash, who had a team-high five points versus Detroit in 2011-12.

Furthermore, another newcomer, Nick Foligno, should get plenty of ice time after he had a power-play goal versus Nashville. Foligno posted career highs of 32 assists and 47 points with the Ottawa Senators last season.

Columbus has had major problems when facing Howard, who is 9-1-1 with a 1.68 goals-against average against them. The Russian players Sergei Bobrovsky has faced the Red Wings once before.
