Boston Bruins vs. New York Rangers

Tip-off: Wednesday, January 23, 2013 – 7:30 PM ET

Madison Square Garden, New York, New York

The Boston Bruins appeared to be in midseason form in an outstanding season-opening victory over the inactive New York Rangers, and according to the online betting lines, both teams played the same way in their second games.

Tonight Boston is likely to keep both trends going when they visit Madison Square Garden looking to deal New York their first 0-3-0 start in 14 seasons.

Last Saturday the Bruins (2-0-0) defeated visiting New York 3-1, outshooting the Rangers 34-21. Milan Lucic, Daniel Paille and Johnny Boychuk scored as Boston looked ready to win compared to a Rangers team that wasn’t as sharp looking.

Boston managed to keep that energy going to a 2-1 shootout win against the Winnipeg Jets on Monday, managing to bring out another solid performance from Tuukka Rask with 26 saves and winning after killing off a large portion of short-handed time late.

The Bruins were short-handed for 2 minutes, 17 seconds of overtime after playing the final 71 seconds of regulation down a man. Boston has ended with the luck of all nine opposing power plays this NHL season.

New York is not looking solid at all. The Rangers followed the defeat versus the Bruins by falling 6-3 versus the Pittsburgh Penguins in their home opener Sunday.

The Rangers have suffered a series of unfortunate events lately in addition to their inability to match their opponent physically for the second straight game. New York trailed 3-1 at the end of the first period and saw Vezina Trophy winner Henrik Lundqvist chased midway through the second.

New York dropped three straight to open the previous hockey season, but was able to gain two points in those games and played the first two in Europe. Online wagering fans considered this as a popular preseason pick to win the Stanley Cup as the Rangers hadn’t lost their first three in regulation since a five-game skid to open 1998-99.

Boston will be looking for their third straight victory in the series. The Bruins won 2-1 in the last meeting at MSG on April 1.
