Hockey Game Preview at YouWager: Islanders vs. Penguins

New York Islanders vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

Tip-off: Tuesday, January 29, 2013 – 7:30 PM ET

CONSOL Energy Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The Pittsburgh Penguins are currently one of two Eastern Conference teams without a home victory, however they’ve only had one chance to impress their YouWager fans at Consol Energy Center.

Now, they have a second time as Pittsburgh looks for a 14th victory in the last 15 visits from the New York Islanders tonight.

The Penguins (3-2-0) played four of their first five games on the road, and won for a third time with a 2-1 shootout win over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday. James Neal scored Pittsburgh’s only goal in the first period, however along with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin they beat Craig Anderson in the shootout.

This hockey team’s worst performance as of yet came in a 5-2 home defeat versus the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday. Pittsburgh took 31 minutes in penalties — nearly half of their season total — and allowed each goal in the final two periods.

The Penguins have scored first in all five games, and led 2-0 in the first period against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday on a pair of Crosby goals before falling 4-2.

The Islanders’ defeat may have been tougher on their fans. The team scored three times in the first 10 minutes of the third period to take a 4-2 lead, but allowed Winnipeg to tie it before Evander Kane gave the Jets a 5-4 victory in overtime.

It’s not common for New York to give 60 minutes of good effort at Pittsburgh, however they did win in their most recent trip. The Islanders snapped a 13-game skid there with a 5-3 win March 27 even when being outshot 54-25.

If New York truly wants to win again in Pittsburgh, they need to see action from John Tavares. The team’s scoring leader in 2013 with seven points, the 22 year-old has played seven straight games against Pittsburgh without recording a point.

The Penguins are 13-0-2 against the Islanders when Crosby scores a goal.
