Adrian Wilson, defensive end John Abraham as well as free-agent linebacker Dwight Freeney will visit the New England Patriots today, YouWager has learned.
Freeney, whom New England quarterback Tom Brady rarely passes up the chance to praise, had five sacks and just 12 tackles in 14 games in 2012.
Drafted 11th overall by the Indianapolis Colts in 2002, the 33 year-old is the franchise’s career sacks leader (107.5) and the only Indianapolis player to win a sacks title in the NFL (16 in 2004), and his seven Pro Bowl appearances are tied for fifth in franchise history with Lenny Moore.
In addition, other Pro Bowl selections are Peyton Manning (11), Gino Marchetti and John Unitas (10 each) and Jim Parker (eight). Marchetti, Unitas, Parker and Moore are all Hall of Fame members, and Marchetti is the only Indianapolis defender to appear in more all-star games than Freeney.
By taking a look at previous NFL live lines, Freeney was most effective in the traditional 4-3 defense, and after switching to the 3-4 for the first time last football season, he saw his numbers drop.
The Connecticut native 2012 statistics continued a steady decline over the past few seasons. Back in 2011, he had 19 tackles and 8.5 sacks, which was down from 25 tackles and 10 sacks in 2010. Those number were down from 2009, when Freeney had 31 tackles and 13.5 sacks.
