Daryl Washington, a linebacker for the Cardinals, has been suspended for four games for Substance Abuse

According to a YouWager news source, Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington has been suspended for the first four games of the 2013 regular NFL football wagering season for violating the NFL Policy for Substance Abuse.

As in the other suspensions for substance abuse, YouWager’s football bettors have seen recently, Washington will be allowed attend offseason and preseason practices and games, but he cannot be on the active roster until the day after the Cardinals’ fourth regular-season game.

Washington did not deny the charges. He told YouWager’s source, “I was always taught that when you make a mistake, you admit it, learn from it and face whatever consequences there are. I take full responsibility and I understand that I let down my teammates, the organization and fans. I apologize for that and promise that no one will work harder to make up for it.”

At a time when gym workouts for dedicated bodybuilders routinely include stimulants that are sold over the counter, NFL players have to be very careful what they consume these days. One player got in trouble not long ago when it was discovered that he had ingested a stimulant commonly found in many cold remedies.

In the 2012 NFL football betting season, Washington, 26, got his first invitation to the Pro Bowl after he made 134 tackles, a career record. He also made 9 sacks, forced two forced fumbles and an interception in 16 games.

Washington first came to the attention of many YouWager bettors as a linebacker for the TCU Horned Frogs. He was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft in 2010. In his 3 years with Arizona, Washington has made 319 tackles, 15 sacks, four interceptions and three forced fumbles.

Bruce Arians, the new head coach of the Cardinals, told YouWager’s source, “Adversity and dealing with it is part of the business but when it’s avoidable like this was, it’s particularly tough. One of the biggest things we preach is accountability; Daryl knows that and our team knows that. We will deal with this and others will have to step up until he’s back. I’m confident they will.”

Arians will have his work cut out for him. Aside from losing a player to the NFL Substance Abuse policy, as any of YouWager’s serious NFL football bettors know, the Cardinals have suffered through many losing seasons. Arizona presently has the longest championship drought in the NFL. The club is one of the oldest in the league. It was first formed in Chicago in 1898. Then it moved to St. Louis in 1960. Before the 1988 NFL football betting season, the team moved to Tempe, a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona. It’s been more than 60 years since the club won a national championship. For his 9-3 record in 2012 as the interim head coach for the Indianapolis Colts, Arians was named 2012’s AP Head Coach of the Year. He is the first interim coach to ever win the award.
