Louisville (34-5) has impressed bettors destroying their first four rivals before rallying from a dozen points down in the second half to beat surprising the Wichita State Shockers 72-68 in the national semifinals.
The Cardinals athletic program has done a fantastic job in general. The women’s basketball team will be playing for a national championship tomorrow night, while the football team won a Big East title and stunned the Florida Gators in the Sugar Bowl.
However, Louisville is still feeling left out in their own state. The Kentucky Wildcats have impressed many lately and the Cardinals seem to be the school that has to work a little harder for a little love.
Michigan (31-7) hasn’t exactly stayed quite. They won a national title in 1989, beating the Seton Hall Pirates in overtime. The Wolverines lost three other times in the championship.
Bettors know this program overall for the Fab Five, that group of five stellar recruits who led this college basketball team to back-to-back finals appearances in 1992 and `93.
The Wolverines are cut from the same mold, with three freshmen starters and two other first-year players who made big contributions in a semifinal win versus the Syracuse Orange.
Both of these NCAA teams got to this point with crucial assists from the backups.
