Citi Field, New York, NY
- Los Angeles: Lilly (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
- New York: Harvey (4-0, 0.93 ERA)
This is Matt Harvey’s first full season in the majors and he has really impressed online sports wagering fans.
The Los Angeles Dodgers hope veteran Ted Lilly will give their injury-plagued rotation a much-needed lift.
Tonight the 24 year-old Harvey will try to become the first Met to win his first five starts in seven years when he starts versus Lilly, who’s set to make his season debut this evening when these clubs continue a three-game series at Citi Field.
Harvey (4-0, 0.93 ERA) has been lights out thus far, striking out 32 over 29 innings while limiting rivals to a .108 average. The native of Connecticut is the first pitcher in baseball’s modern era to win his first four starts while yielding a combined 10 hits or fewer.
Harvey gave up one run, four hits and struck out seven in as many innings Friday in a 7-1 victory versus the Washington Nationals.
The right-hander walked off to a standing ovation after outpitching Stephen Strasburg and improved to 2-2 with a 1.42 ERA over six career home starts.
Harvey has an opportunity to become the first Met to win his first five starts since Pedro Martinez seven years ago. The rookie will try to get the best of Lilly, who’s really looking forward to get back on the hill for the first time since May 23 after recovering from shoulder surgery.
Lilly is entering his 15th MLB season and will help fill in for the injured Zack Greinke and Chris Capuano.
The left-hander’s contributions will prove all the more crucial now that Chad Billingsley is out, too. Billingsley is set to undergo Tommy John surgery Wednesday.
