Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees
Tip-off: Friday, April 26, 2013 – 7:05 PM ET
Yankee Stadium, New York, NY
- Toronto: Laffey (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
- New York: Nova (1-1, 6.14 ERA)
Despite Derek Jeter’s absence, the New York Yankees are more than eager to keep impressing their YouWager fans with their home success versus the Toronto Blue Jays.
After New York relied on the long ball to win the series opener while Jeter watched, they look for a fifth consecutive home win tonight versus Toronto.
With the injured 38 year-old shortstop at Yankee Stadium last night for the first time in 2013, the Yankees (12-9) belted three homers en route to a 5-3 victory versus the Blue Jays. Robinson Cano hit a three-run homer, and ex-Blue Jay Vernon Wells and Francisco Cervelli added solo shots for the Bronx Bombers, who have started well even without Jeter until probably mid-July with a broken ankle.
New York has won 15 of 18 at home versus the Blue Jays and have hit eight of their 31 home runs this season while taking three of four from Toronto (9-14).
Cano is batting .353 (12 for 34) with three home runs and six RBIs in the last eight games. The Dominican Republic native is 17 for 34 while hitting safely in eight straight against Toronto.
Three of Wells’ nine hits in his last 27 at-bats have been home runs — all while going 8 for 19 (.421) when facing the Blue Jays.
Starting tonight will be Ivan Nova (1-1, 6.14 ERA) and Josh Johnson (0-1, 6.86) who are hoping a better effort than Sunday when they met but oddsmakers consider they weren’t pivotal in the decision of the Blue Jays’ 8-4 victory.
Nova allowed four runs, seven hits and walked four in five innings. The 26 year-old has been unable to last more than five innings in three starts.
Nova is 3-1 with a 4.24 ERA in seven starts against the Blue Jays, including 2-0 with a 3.50 ERA in three starts at Yankee Stadium.
