Houston Astros vs. New York Yankees
Tip-off: Tuesday, April 30, 2013 – 7:05 PM ET
Yankee Stadium, New York, NY
- Houston: Humber (0-5, 7.99 ERA)
- New York: Kuroda (3-1, 2.79 ERA)
Tonight, YouWager bettors will have a chance to choose between a monumental pitching match between the New York Yankees‘ Hiroki Kuroda and Houston Astros‘ Philip Humber.
The 38 year-old Kuroda has never lost in seven career starts versus Houston and Humber has been hit hard in losing all five starts for the Astros as they make it to tonight’s game.
The Astros (8-18) ended a nine-game road slide as well as the Yankees’ four-game victory streak with a 9-1 rout in Monday’s opener of a three-game set.
However, New York (15-10) is quite likely to be heavily favored by online sports betting fans in the second game.
Kuroda (3-1, 2.79 ERA) is 3-0 with a 1.61 ERA versus Houston and brings in a 15-inning scoreless streak when playing versus them.
The Yanks have won four straight starts by the Japan native, who is 3-0 with a 2.28 ERA in that span. Kuroda gave up three runs over six innings Thursday in a 5-3 home victory versus the Toronto Blue Jays, settling down and not allowing a hit over his final four frames.
The right-hander’s batterymate was the injured Francisco Cervelli in each of his last three outings, with Chris Stewart catching him in his first two 2013 outings. He has a 1.61 ERA with Cervelli behind the plate, but a 6.75 mark with Stewart.
Rivals are batting .215 versus Kuroda this year while that figure is a robust .343 against Humber (0-5, 7.99).
Humber was unable to get out of the first inning and allowed eight runs two starts ago versus the Cleveland Indians before yielding seven over 4 2/3 innings Thursday in a 7-2 loss against the Boston Red Sox.
The 30 year-old is 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA in two starts versus the Bronx Bombers back in 2011.
The Yankees lead the all-time series 8-2.
