Houston Texans (2-2) vs. San Francisco 49ers (2-2), at San Francisco

Kickoff: Sunday, Oct. 6th at 8:30PM ET

Line: San Francisco -5.5 Total: 41

Both the Houston Texans and the San Francisco 49ers will be striving for a third win in the 2013 NFL football wagering season when they face each other on Sunday. The 49ers seemed to find their way in Week 4, just as Houston lost to Seattle. Online oddsmakers favor San Francisco, but the Texans will be desperate to end their losing streak with a victory in Sunday’s game. In their last 6 games, the Texans are 0-6 against the spread. They really need a win here, and to cover the spread on the road. But at YouWager, the Texans are currently 6 point underdogs.

In their last contest, the Texans blew a 20-6 lead over the Seattle Seahawks in the third quarter. The Seahawks rallied, and in the last minutes of the game, Houston’s quarterback, Matt Schaub, threw an interception that cost them 6 points and the game. Houston’s record dropped to 2-2 straight up and 0-4 against the spread. Schaub has thrown a pick-6 in 3 games now. Against Seattle, Schuab did manage to pass for 355 yards and 2 touchdowns, along with 2 interceptions. The first interception was caused by a dropped pass. Fortunately, the Texans have faired well on the ground. Averaging 134 yards per game, they are currently 9th in the league with their running game. Running back Arian Foster rushed for 102 yards on 27 carries and a touchdown last week, and he caught 6 passes for 69 yards. Houston’s defense leads the NFL in total defense with 254 yards per game allowed, in passing defense with 141 yards allowed, and in sacks per attempt, at 12.3%. Can the Texans possibly end their losing streak in front a tough crowd, in San Francisco?

After losing to the Seahawks and the Colts, the 49ers gained some momentum with a solid 35-11 win on the road against the St. Louis Rams last Thursday. The 49ers are now 2-2 straight up and against the spread. If they win this contest, they will still have a shot at the NFC West crown. San Francisco’s offense struggled in Weeks 2 and 3 with a combined 10 points and seven turnovers. But Thursday night, quarterback Colin Kaepernick threw for 167 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Running back Frank Gore performed admirably, rushing for 153 yards and a touchdown. The 49ers have claimed 131 rushing yards per game so far, and that puts them at 10th in the NFL. San Francisco’s defense also improved last week, only allowing the Rams 188 total yards.

Houston won 24-21 at home the last time these two teams played, in 2009. Both teams could be missing their star linebackers for this contest. Houston’s Brian Cushing is question mark after a concussion injury in the Seattle game, and San Francisco’s Patrick Willis is recovering from a groin injury. The 49ers are 16-3-1 straight up and 14-5-1 against the spread in their last 20 home games. Both teams looked like contenders for the Lombardy Trophy at the beginning of the 2013 NFL football wagering season, but both clubs have struggled to be consistent this year. Still, when playing at home, the odds are in San Francisco’s favor. At YouWager, the 49ers are 6 point favorites. The Total is 41. Game time on Sunday is 8:30PM Eastern.
