Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan
Oakland: Parker (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
Detroit: Sanchez (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
For the Detroit Tigers, Anibal Sanchez is the No. 3 starter — at least in this AL division series when facing the Oakland Athletics.
Tonight Sanchez will be starting Game 3 between Detroit and Oakland after the teams split a pair of pulsating one-run games in Oakland. The Athletics evened the series Saturday night even with a brilliant performance by Tigers own Justin Verlander, and now Detroit will call on Sanchez, another standout from what’s become an exceptional starting rotation.
Sanchez’s 2.57 ERA this baseball season indeed paced the American League, and the 29 year-old has been exactly what the Tigers hoped for when the team acquired him from the Miami Marlins in the middle of last season.
Sanchez, Verlander and also right-hander Max Scherzer have constantly impressed YouWager experts over the last couple years, it wasn’t clear how Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland would order them for this series.
Scherzer won Game 1 versus the A’s, and Verlander held the A’s scoreless for seven innings in Game 2.
The Athletics finally scored in the ninth off the Tigers’ bullpen to win 1-0, but now Detroit can send Sanchez out tonight. Doug Fister will take the mound in Game 4 after going 14-9 with a 3.67 ERA during the regular MLB season.
Oakland can run four solid starters out to the mound too — even if the A’s pitchers aren’t as well known. Sonny Gray certainly impressed online sports betting fans in his postseason debut Saturday, when he went toe to toe with Verlander.
The Athletics will send Jarrod Parker to the mound tonight and he says there’s no extra pressure to match scoreless frames with Detroit.
