New York Jets (2-2) at Atlanta Falcons (1-3)

Kickoff: Monday, 8:40PM ET

Line: Atlanta -10 Total: 44

The Atlanta Falcons need to shake off their loss on Sunday, to the New England Patriots. One way to do that, is beat the New York Jets on Monday night. The Falcons were not able to stop Tom Brady and company from humbling them in a 30-23 contest, but the New York Jets could be another story, with a better ending. At YouWager, the Jets are 10 point underdogs in Monday’s night’s matchup. The New York Jets are also coming from a loss, too. Is that a surprise to online wagering fans, at this point? The Tennessee Titans blasted the Jets recently, to the tune of 38-13. Going back to 1995, Atlanta is 3-1 straight up and against the spread against New York. In their victories against New York, Atlanta has scored double-digits. The last time these two teams met, in December of 2009, Atlanta won 10-7.

The Jets will not have their star wide receiver, Santonio Holmes. He has a hamstring injury, and their best tight end, Kellen Winslow, may not be able to play either. After losing to Tennessee, New York is now 2-2 straight up, and 3-1 against the spread. Rookie quarterback Geno Smith threw 23-of-34 for 289 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. He made mistakes on the field that were almost comical. Running back Bilal Powell did well, rushing for 66 yards on 14 carries and catching 3 passes for 42 yards. New York’s defense leads the league, allowing only 14 first downs per game, they are ranked second in the NFL, in total defense with a total average of 283 yards per game. It’s up the Jets’ defense to keep this game close.

Atlanta will be missing their star running back. Steven Jackson will be out for two more weeks with a hamstring injury. Atlanta’s recent loss was obviously a much closer contest. Quarterback Matt Ryan tried to rally his team, throwing 34-for-54 for 421 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. So far, in the 2013 NFL football wagering season, Ryan has passed thrown 1,330 passing yards, averaging 7.7 yards per attempt. Online oddsmakers will expect to see Ryan passing more with Jackson out of the picture. On the other side of the ball, Atlanta has good record against running games. They are 6th in the league, averaging 92 yards per game. But they are not as effective against an air attack. That’s why opponents average 6.1 yards against them. This is the 4th highest record in the National Football League.

The Atlanta Falcons are 15-31 against the spread in their home games, after they have already played a game home, since 1992. At YouWager, the Falcons are 10 point favorites. The Total is 44. Game time Monday night is 8:40PM Eastern.
