“I really, really like women.”
– Aaron Rodgers, quarterback, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packer quarterback disputes Internet rumors about his sexuality
The Internet’s wagering community has seen several reports lately that make allegations or claims that one of the league’s top quarterbacks, a long-time favorite for many NFL football betting fans, is a homosexual. Many of the rumors can be traced to controversial blogger Perez Hilton. Hilton, who is openly gay and famous for outing celebrities that pretend to be straight in order to protect their careers in the entertainment or sports world.
Perez Hilton is also open about his efforts to expose closeted gay celebrities. Some in the entertainment industry call Hilton’s site“Hollywood’s Most-Hated Website,” but Hilton, apparently, couldn’t care less. Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira, Jr., told a YouWager news source, “I don’t think it’s a bad thing. If you know something to be a fact, why not report it? Why is that still taboo?”
On his Perez Hilton blog, Lavandeira claimed that he had inside information about Aaron Rodgers. He wrote, “Aaron has attended numerous sports award shows with Kevin, always color coordinated and without any double female dates, including the ESPY’s. Kevin was also the first person Aaron embraced when the Packers won the Super-bowl in 2011. I just find it really strange that as of late there has been many bitter subliminal tweets on Kevin Lanflisi’s twitter alluding to a relationship much deeper than a friendship he had, with who I perceive to be Aaron Rodgers, because Kevin has NEVER once tweeted about having a girlfriend, just mainly about the Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers, and Justin Bieber’s music and sitting front row at Bieber’s concert. There has been speculation for years here in Wisconsin that Aaron is gay.”
As one entertainment industry authority at YouWager has pointed out, Perez’s actions have accumulated several lawsuits, and many of his claims have not been backed up with photos or actual evidence. Notoriety is the business. In June of 2007, Hilton’s web hosting company dropped his site after threats of liability. Apparently, not every commercial site on the Internet is as reliable as a First Fidelity owned sportsbook. Many news items and quotes are often false. One report currently circulating among the online betting community is concerns Aaron Rodger’s father. In the ‘article,’ the quarterback’s dad is said to be very angry about the gay rumors, and says that his son is engaged to a beautiful Christian woman.
The quotes from the player’s father are slightly suspicious, says YouWager’s expert. But within the National Football League, Rodgers really is known to be deeply religious. In fact, he was once compared by the press to Tim Tebow. But the Green Bay quarterback admitted that his personal style is not about making a public display. And Rodgers has been photographed in the company of Destiny Newton, an attractive young woman he has known since he attended church camp as a teenager.
In a recent interview, Rodgers was direct with a YouWager news source, about the rumors, saying, “I’m just going to say I’m not gay. There’s always going to be silly stuff out there in the media and you can’t worry too much about it. I don’t. I think professional is professional and personal is personal and that’s how I’m going to keep it.”
As some media websites and magazines seek to exploit the controversy about the player’s private life, many online wagering enthusiasts say they really don’t care, as long as his team covers the spread. When Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers face the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday, they will be 2.5 underdogs at YouWager. The Total is 48. Game time on Sunday afternoon is 4:40PM Eastern.
