Florida State Seminoles fans as well as YouWager bettors couldn’t be happier after this top-ranked team zoomed back in the fourth quarter to beat the Auburn Tigers in the final seconds of the BCS championship game.
Last night things got loud in Tallahassee, Fla., after Jameis Winston threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Kelvin Benjamin with 13 seconds left as the Seminoles beat No. 2 Tigers 34-31.
Two machines rained streams of garnet and gold confetti down on thousands of Florida State fans who jumped and danced in a civic center where they had watched the game. For both college football teams, it was a tense finale after a game in which the Tigers mostly had the first-half momentum.
In the end, Seminoles fans bursted into cheering, including a group of fans who built a fire outside while they watched the game amid a bitter cold snap. Like many in the region, Tigers fans and Florida State had to endure unseasonably bitter cold weather.
For Tigers fans, it was a bitter moment after their team had taken a surprising 21-10 lead by the end of the first half.
Earlier in the game, thousands of Auburn fans in orange and blue roared inside Auburn Arena, watching on a big video screen as Auburn, led by Nick Marshall, racked up the first touchdowns. Tigers fans shook and warmed the basketball coliseum with their energy — while outside temperatures reached the 20s.
Several Seminoles fans were sorry that the early momentum wasn’t with them at the outset. Florida State hadn’t trailed in any game since late September.
However this team sure rose in the second half of this game and came out victorious.
