The 2018 NFL regular season may still be a few weeks away from its completion, but if you’re an NFL betting enthusiasts that is looking for more ways than ever to cash in, then you should know that you’re going to have a good opportunity to do just that thanks to the latest odds on the next head coach to be fired.

If you’ve got an inkling on which coach could be next to get the ax, then good for you. If you need a bit of assistance in narrowing the field, then that’s where we come in.

Who will be the next NFL coach to be fired in 2018?

Steve Wilks +400
Todd Bowles +425
Mike McCarthy +450
John Harbaugh +500
Vance Joseph +700
Dirk Koetter +750
Doug Marrone +800
Adam Gase +800
Pat Shurmur +1000
Sean McDermott +2500

I have no idea why Arizona’s Steve Wilks is the prohibitive favorite to get fired next when he’s in his first season with the Cardinals and trying to rebuild the team under rookie quarterback Josh Rosen. The Cardinals couldn’t have made the hire with just one year in mind and although stranger things have happened, I don’t see Arizona firing Wilks despite their uninspiring play this season.

New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles is definitely on the hot seat. After going 10-6 in his first season with New York in 2015, the Jets have recorded consecutive 5-11 seasons and they may or may not reach that win total this season. With strong-armed rookie Sam Darnold clearly the future for the Jets, could Bowles see the exit in favor of a more offensive-minded head coach? I think so!

A lot of Packers fans are suddenly interested in seeing longtime head coach Mike McCarthy hit the road Jack – and I guess there’s some sense in that line of thinking. In seven seasons since winning it all in 2010, the Packers have recorded five double-digit winning seasons in seven tries prior to this season, but Green Bay has managed to reach the NFC Championship game only once during the span. Still, I’m thinking McCarthy is good for at least one more season, but a lot of Packers fans are ready to part ways now!

While Mike McCarthy has still largely succeeded since winning it all, John Harbaugh’s track record since winning the Super Bowl has been mediocre at best. In five seasons since winning it all in 2012, the Ravens have recorded two winning seasons, two 8-8 campaigns and one 5-11 season in 2015. Harbaugh might be shown the door, but I say the Ravens should get rid of Joe Flacco and give Harbaugh another season with Lamar Jackson under center.

I don’t know how else to say it except that Denver’s Vance Joseph was awful in his head coaching debut a year ago and he hasn’t been much better this season although Denver still has some legitimate playoff hopes at the time of this writing. Joseph is currently 10-17 and I don’t think that’s quite what John Elway had in mind when he hired him. In his defense, Joseph has had a handful of mostly incompetent quarterbacks that have cost him games, so there’s that at the very least.

Tampa Bay’s Dirk Koetter is 18-25 in almost three full seasons with the Buccaneers and I’m fairly certain this one will be his last despite the fact that he’s got one winning season and one losing campaign on his record – so far. Jacksonville was supposed to contend for the AFC Championship, but everything has gone wrong for them, starting with the fact that Marrone apparently can’t see just how awful veteran quarterback Blake Bortles is. I think Marrone gets one more season – without Bortles under center – to see just how high he can help the Jags soar.

Miami’s Adam Gase is an uninspiring 21-22 in almost three full seasons with the Dolphins, but he’s got a problem in the fact that quarterback Ryan Tannehill is the definition of mediocre. Gase doesn’t appear to be what I’d call a ‘bad’ head coach, but Miami’s front office and roster-building are hampering his chances to win, which is why I believe Gase will be back for at least one more season.

I have no idea why the New York Giants’ Pat Shurmur is on this list seeing as how he’s in his first season with a Giants team that is clearly in the beginning stages of a multi-year rebuild mode. Forget betting on Shurmur, he’s not getting fired.

Buffalo’s Sean McDermott has a great defensive mind, but I think he’s an awful head coach. Yes, he led the Bills to a winning 9-7 mark in his first season a year ago, but his decision-making, particularly at quarterback, has completely thrown his team into disarray. I mean, this is the guy that couldn’t wait to bench Tyrod Taylor in favor Nathan ‘freakin’ Peterman. Not only that, but he then jettisoned Taylor in favor of unproven veteran backup A.J. McCarron – before eventually parting ways with him – in favor of Peterman – to open the season. I think McDermott needs to go, but I suspect he’s going to get at least one more season in Buffalo.

Expert Analysis and Prediction

I’m going with the New York Jets to immediately get rid of Todd Bowles as soon as the regular season comes to an end. Not only are the Jets not improving under Bowles, but they’ve got a gifted young quarterback that could benefit immensely from the addition of an offensive-minded head coach much like fellow young signal-callers, Jared Goff, Patrick Mahomes and Mitch Trubisky, among others, have. I actually love Todd Bowles and I believe he’s got arguably the best defensive mind of anyone on the planet no named Wade Phillips, but the time is right for he and the Jets to part ways.
