#2 North Carolina (25-10) vs. #15 Lipscomb (23-9)

Game Information

What: #2 North Carolina (25-10) vs. #15 Lipscomb (23-9)
When: Friday, March 16, 2018, at 2:45 PM ET
Where: Spectrum Center, Charlotte, North Carolina
NCAAB Odds: North Carolina -19.5

Analysis: North Carolina saw their three-game winning streak come to an abrupt halt in their 71-63 ACC tournament loss to Virginia last weekend. The loss dropped the Tar Heels to a mediocre 3-3 over their last six games. Carolina averages a healthy 82.0 points per game while allowing 73.1 per contest defensively.
Lipscomb might be a little-known commodity coming into March Madness, but they’re offering some excellent value if you ask me. The Bisons have won eight consecutive games including their 108-96 win over Florida Gulf Coast on March 4. Lipscomb might be a small school but they average a huge, 82.6 points per game, although they also allow 77.5 per contest defensively.
The Bisons are led by junior guard Garrison Mathews, who led the Atlantic Sun in scoring at 22.1 points while putting up a stupendous 28.3 points per contest over his last three games after hanging 33 on Florida Gulf Coast the last time out. However, junior forward Rob Marberry was the team’s only other double-figure scorer at 16 points per game.
North Carolina has gone 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games, 12-4-2 ATS in their last 18 games following an ATS loss and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 NCAA Tournament games, but Lipscomb is 4-1 ATS in their last five games and 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 non-conference games. Even though I’m not real high on Carolina this year, I expect the Tar Heels to find a way to win this contest, but I like the Lipscomb Bisons to cover a spread that is at least six or seven points too high.

Betting Pick: Lipscomb +19.5

#10 Butler (20-13) vs. #7 Arkansas (23-11)

Game Information

What: #10 Butler (20-13) vs. #7 Arkansas (23-11)
When: Friday, March 16 at 3:10 PM ET
Where: Little Caesars Arena – Detroit, MI – Game
NCAAB Odds: Butler -1.5

Analysis: Tenth-seeded Butler is the favorite in this contest despite being the lower seed against No. 7 Arkansas and I say rightfully so. Sure, the Bulldogs have dropped three of their last four games, but I can’t get past the fact that Arkansas hasn’t really recorded an impressive victory over an elite opponent this year.
I know Arkansas has the edge in scoring, but Butler is the slightly better defensive team and the defense still wins championships. One of the biggest reasons I like the Bulldogs is that they took down arguably the best team in the country by hanging a stunning 101 points on No. 1 seeded Villanova earlier this season. Plus, they’ve had some huge conference clashes in the Big East this season that I think prepared them for March Madness.
Butler has compiled a blistering 20-5-2 ATS mark in their last 27 NCAA Tournament games and an even more incendiary 40-16-2 ATS mark in their last 58 neutral site games. Arkansas has gone an uninspiring 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight-up loss and just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 vs. Big East teams. Butler wins outright as the lower seed. it’s that simple!

Pick: Butler -1.5

#2 Purdue Boilermakers (28-6) vs. #15 Cal State Fullerton Titans (20-11)

Game Information

What: #2 Purdue Boilermakers (28-6) vs. #15 Cal State Fullerton Titans (20-11)
When: Friday, March 16, 2018, a 12:40 PM ET
Where: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, Michigan
NCAAB Odds: Purdue -20.5
Total: 145.5

Analysis: Second-seeded Purdue ended up on the wrong end of a humbling 75-66 loss against Michigan in the Big Ten conference tournament last weekend, but I love the Boilermakers this season and I genuinely believe they could make a run to the Final Four if they play to their full capability.
The Boilermakers are one of the few elite teams in the nation at both ends of the floor in ranking 35th nationally in scoring (81.1 ppg) and 26th nationally in points allowed (65.6 ppg).
No. 15 seed Cal State Fullerton did manage to win three straight to snag the Big West Conference tourney in an upsetting after finishing fourth in the conference during the regular season. The Titans have won five of their last six games and eight of 10 overall, so they’re playing decent basketball right now.
However, I just don’t see the Titans being able to overcome a Purdue squad that is simply better than they are at both ends of the floor. Case in point, Cal State Fullerton lost both of their regular season matchups against ranked teams by getting pounded against USC 84-42 in their regular season opener and then losing to Saint Mary’s 76-57 the very next time out.
Still, I’m not real fond of a 20-point spread that I believe is a few points too high and I believe Cal State has just enough in them to cover the chalk.
Think the Titans have just enough in them to cover the big, 20-point spread in this one. The Titans have a pair of players that can put the ball in the hole consistently in Kyle Allman (19.4 ppg) and Khalil Ahmad (15.3 ppg) and I believe they’ll find a way to keep the final score close against Purdue’s pair of stars, Carsen Edwards (18.5 ppg) and Vincent Edwards (14.5 ppg).
Cal State has compiled a perfect 4-0 ATS mark in their last 4 non-conference games while also going 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 neutral site games. On the flip side of the coin,  Purdue is just 2-6 ATS in their last eight neutral site games and 1-11-1 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Boilermakers won’t fail to win this game, but I’m going with Cal State-Fullerton to cover!

Betting Pick: Cal State Fullerton +20
