College Football Bowls for Monday, December 31, 2018
After an exciting weekend of college football action, we now know that it will be Alabama and Clemson facing off for the National Championship. Before we get to that game, though, there are still a good number of bowl games to take care of. Monday is a particularly busy day, so let’s get you started with the 3 bowl games that will be kicking off in the earlier part of the day. We will have you fully covered for every game on the college football schedule this week.

2018 Military Bowl - Virginia Tech Hokies vs Cincinnati Bearcats
The Hokies needed to finish the season strong just to get into a bowl game, with back to back wins in the final 2 weeks just enough to get them to the 6 wins that made them bowl eligible. They will go into the Military Bowl to face a Cincinnati Bearcats team that is coming off an impressive 10-win season, thanks in large part to a solid defensive unit that only allowed 16 PPG this year.
The Hokies have had the better of the 5 previous meetings between these two teams, going 3-2 SU in those match-ups. Virginia Tech averaged just shy of 30 PPG this season, but they are going to have a tough time getting the better of the Bearcats D, which could turn this into a one-sided affair. Cincinnati are in as a 6 ½ point favorite here, and I think that they are a very good bet to win and cover.
Predicted Score Virginia Tech Hokies 19 | Cincinnati Bearcats 35
2018 Sun Bowl - Pittsburgh Panthers vs Stanford Cardinal
The Pittsburgh Panthers were one of the surprise teams of the season, making it all the way to the ACC Conference Championship Game, where they were soundly beaten by the Clemson Tigers. There was certainly no shame in losing to a team of that caliber, so regardless of the outcome here, this has to be viewed as a good year for the Panthers. The same cannot be said for the Stanford Cardinal, as they failed to meet preseason expectations, finishing the regular season with an 8-4 record.
Stanford come into this one as a 4 ½ point favorite, but they will be going against a Pitt team that has covered the spread in 6 of their last 8 games. That said, the Cardinal were 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6, so it’s anyone’s game here. The Panthers will need to be able to run the ball well to win this one, which could prove to be a problem against the Cardinal D. I am going with Stanford to win and cover.
Predicted Score Pittsburgh Panthers 24 | Stanford Cardinal 33
2018 Redbox Bowl - Oregon Ducks vs Michigan State Spartans
Of the three early games on the schedule for Monday, the Redbox Bowl may well be the pick of the bunch. You have a Michigan State Spartans team that doesn’t score much, but who have a defense that can stop the best of them, as they gave up just 17 PPG this season.
On the other side, you have an Oregon Ducks offense that plays fast and that can seemingly score at will. The bookies are not entirely sure which of those units will stand up and be counted today, as they have the Ducks in as a slight 1 ½ point favorite. The Spartans may be able to slow them down a little, but I am not so sure they can put up enough points to win or cover, which is why I am on the Ducks.
Predicted Score Oregon Ducks 28 | Michigan State Spartans 23
