Week 6 College Football: Alabama at Arkansas & Texas at Oklahoma
Once Week 6 College Football comes to a close in college football, we will have reached the midway point of the regular season. As it stands right now, the top 4 teams have set the bar to a level that is going to be tough for other teams to reach.
The goal for the chasing pack is to continue winning in hopes that the big 4 will slip up at some point this season.
The Alabama Crimson Tide will look to maintain their #1 status with a win on the road at Arkansas, while the Oklahoma Sooners will be trying to keep up their challenge with a win over the Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry.
Let’s take a closer look at these two games, with predictions included.
Alabama Crimson Tide at Arkansas Razorbacks
🏈: #1 Alabama Crimson Tide at Arkansas Razorbacks
⏰: Sat. Oct 6, 2018 12:00 PM ET
🏟️: Razorback Stadium, Fayetteville, AR
📺: ESPN, DTV: 206
🎰: Alabama Crimson Tide -35 -110 | O 59 -110
There is always some level of pressure on the champions to deliver the goods in the season following a National Championship win, but the Alabama Crimson Tide are making it look easy right now.
No-one has come close to laying a finger on them through the opening 5 weeks of the season, which is not really a surprise when you consider that the Crimson Tide are averaging over 54 PPG. They are in here as a 34-point favorite against a team that they have now beaten 11 straight times.
Arkansas started their 2018 campaign with a win, but it has been all downhill since then, with 4 straight losses now on the books. This is a team that has been struggling to score consistently, averaging around 14 PPG in their 4 losses this season.
It’s tough to imagine them being able to compete with what Alabama are bringing to the table, even with home field advantage.
This really should be another lopsided win for the Alabama Crimson Tide, although the 34-point spread is a little concerning. Still, I have Alabama winning and covering here.
Predicted Score: Alabama Crimson Tide 44 Arkansas Razorbacks 6
Red River Showdown - Oklahoma Sooners vs. Texas Longhorns
🏈: Red River Showdown – #7 Oklahoma Sooners vs. #19 Texas Longhorns
⏰: Sat. Oct 6, 2018 12:00 PM ET
🏟️: Cotton Bowl Stadium, Dallas, TX
🎰: Oklahoma Sooners -8 -110 | O 60½ -110
The Red River Rivalry will be back for its latest installment on Saturday and it looks to be one of the games of the week.
Texas have recovered nicely after losing their season opener, winning 4 in a row to crack the top 25. They have lost 2 in a row and 3 of the last 4 meetings with Oklahoma, but they have all been close, with the average margin of victory in the last 4 meetings between these two coming in at around 5 PPG.
The Oklahoma Sooners are sitting just outside the top 4, waiting patiently for someone to slip up. That said, they need to keep winning to stay in touch with the leaders, which is not really a given this weekend. The Sooners are a perfect 5-0, but they are also just 2-3 ATS in those games. Given the nature of the previous meetings with Texas and how well the Longhorns have been playing of late, that 8 point spread perhaps seems a little generous to the Sooners.
This is a game that I think will stay close through the opening 3 quarters, but I like the Sooners to take control and pull away late, covering the spread in the process.
Predicted Score: Texas Longhorns 21 Oklahoma Sooners 33
