Odds to win 2019 College Football Championship & Super Early Predictions
It was another magnificent season in college football, as we were treated to a National Championship Game for the ages. Alabama pulled off a great second half comeback, finally getting past Georgia in OT to secure their 5th National Championship in 9 years. The season may be over, but we are already looking ahead to next season, and while it is probably way to early to start making predictions, we are going to do so anyway. The odds to win the 2019 College Football Championship have already been released, and we have the usual suspects in as the favorites. Let’s take a closer look at the teams the bookies like, whilst also making some predictions about those schools.
Alabama Crimson Tide
Odds to win the 2019 NCAA Football Championship: +180
You don’t get to win that many titles in such a short space of time and avoid being the favorite every year. As long as Nick Saban is coaching this team, we can expect them to be at the top. Yes, Alabama is losing a lot of talent to the NFL draft, but the National Championship Game proved that they have another great crop of players coming through and ready to compete at the highest level possible. The one prediction that I have for Alabama is that they will have a new starting QB, as Tua Tagovailoa proved that he is the real deal on Monday night. We may even see Jalen Hurts transfer out before all is said and done.
Odds to win the 2019 NCAA Football Championship: +650
The Tigers have been in the playoffs in each of the last 3 seasons, making it to the championship game twice and winning it once. This is not a team that is suddenly about to get worse in the space of a few months, especially when you consider that they have a QB in Kelly Bryant who now has a year of experience under his belt heading into next season. That said, I am not totally sold on this team heading into the new season, as they are going to have some real competition from the Miami Hurricanes in the ACC. I am taking the Tigers to miss the playoffs this time around.
Odds to win the 2019 NCAA Football Championship: +800
While the loss in the National Championship Game was a tough pill to swallow for the Dawgs, their fans can take comfort in knowing that this is a group of players that are ahead of schedule. Yes, like Alabama, they are going to lose a lot of talent to the NFL, but Georgia also has the #1 recruiting class coming in next season. Jake Fromm proved himself as the starting QB, but he will get pushed even harder by 5-star recruit Justin Fields. The Bulldogs will almost certainly be back in the SEC Championship Game next season, and I would suggest that you look at the odds for D’Andre Swift for the Heisman next season.
Ohio State Buckeyes
Odds to win the 2019 NCAA Football Championship: +580
Missing the playoffs will certainly mean that this season will be considered a bit of a bust for the Buckeyes, but let’s not forget that they were still in the conversation leading up to the final rankings from the College Football Playoff Committee. The Big 10 Champions finished the season strong, closing things out with a dominating win over USC in the Cotton Bowl. Given the current state of the conference and their schedule for next year, I would not bet against the Buckeyes going undefeated in the regular season.
