Texas Bowl: Texas Longhorns vs Missouri Tigers Preview & Betting Odds
There are several things you need to be on the lookout for when you wager during college football bowl season. The stats and trend that we bettors always use are important, but it’s sometimes things that you might not think about that can be the difference between a winning and losing ticket. One thing that you really need to keep an eye on are the players who might decide to sit out their team’s bowl game so that they can prepare for the upcoming NFL draft. While some may view these omissions as a little selfish, the reality is that no player wants to get an injury that could potentially cost them millions of dollars when they turn pro. The Texas Longhorns will have a couple of their best players sitting out the Texas Bowl against the Missouri Tigers, which is all the more problematic when you look at the current injury status of the players on the Longhorns team. This may help explain why the Tigers are -2½ point favorite in the betting odds for this match, with the point total set at 60 ½.

Texas Bowl: Texas Longhorns vs Missouri Tigers
Why bet on the Texas Longhorns
The Texas Longhorns have become something of a sleeping giant in college football, as the powerhouse program has had issues both on the field and off in the recent season. Their 6-6 finish this season is still not what the fans expect of this program, but at least it is a step back towards a little bit of respectability, not to mention a bowl game in their home state. While the Longhorns may seem to be up against it a little in this one, it is worth remembering that they are 6-1 SU in their last 7 games against the Missouri Tigers.
Texas did come close to managing 30 PPG on the offensive side of the football this season, while the defense gave up 21 PPG, and was particularly stingy against the run. They are going to be up against it here, though, as the Tigers put up some big offensive numbers this season. Texas went a healthy 8-4 ATS this season, as well as going 3-9 O/U.
Why bet on the Missouri Tigers
The Missouri tigers very quietly went about their business in the SEC East this season, finishing second behind the Georgia Bulldogs to end the year. They got there by winning their final 6 games of the season and posting some ridiculous offensive numbers during that stretch. Overall, the Tigers offense average 39 PPG, but they needed all of those points, as the defense surrendered over 30 PPG. This team will go as QB Drew Lock does, and you need to be impressed by the 43 TD passes that he tossed this season, as well as his ability to lead the offense to 45 points or more in the final 6 games of the year. One thing that works in the favor of the Tigers is that the favorite has won the Texas Bowl in 7 of the last 10 years. Missouri was 7-5 ATS this season.
Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
I just don’t see how Texas is going to be able to slow down this Tigers offense, especially when they are so seriously understaffed. I’m taking the Tigers to win and cover, and the point total to go just OVER.
