PGA Genesis Open: Preview and Tournament Information
When you look at the PGA schedule for any given season, there are some events that stand out a little more than the rest. The PGA Tour is heading to Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, this week for the 2018 Genesis Open. Previously known as the Los Angeles Open, the tournament has been around since 1926. The majors are a given for those who love to wager on golf, but the Genesis Open is another, as it always seems to draw a lot of the best players in the game. There will be 4 of the top 10 players in the world taking part, as well as Tiger Woods, who will be taking part in his second tournament of the season. The Genesis Open tees off on Thursday, February 15 running all the way through to Sunday. With so many big names set to hit the course, picking a winner can be tough, but we are going to give it a shot. Let’s take a closer look at some of the favorites for the Genesis Open.
The golf betting odds listed at YouWager.eu have Dustin Johnson as the +400 favorite, followed by Rory McIlroy (+1200), Jordan Spieth (+1200), Justin Thomas (+1600), Phil Mickelson (+2200), Paul Casey (+2500), Tommy Fleetwood (+2800), Marc Leishman (+3500), Chez Reavie (+3500) and Ollie Schniederjans (+4000) rounding out the top 10.

When you are the #1 player in the world, you are always going to be at the top of the favorites list. The hat is not the only reason to like Johnson this weekend, though. He has started the season in very good form, already picking up a tour win. He is also the defending champion at this particular event, so he obviously knows the course and how to play it. I don’t like playing the favorite in any sports, but it’s tough to look beyond Johnson this weekend.
Genesis Open Betting Odds: +1200
2017 proved to be a bit of a struggle for McIlroy due to injuries, yet he still managed to play his way into the top 10 on a fairly consistent basis. He is not coming into this one on the best form, failing to make the cut at the Pebble Beach event last weekend. McIlroy is due for a breakout event, and this may well be it, so look for his land in the top 5.
Genesis Open Betting Odds: +1200
Spieth is another player who has not started the season very well, failing to land in the top 10 in any of the events that he has played. Spieth is one of those players who seems to save his best for the bigger tournaments, but his current form is troubling. He will eventually break out of his current slump, but I’m not so sure it will happen this weekend.
Genesis Open Betting Odds: +1600
2017 was a memorable year for Justin Thomas, as he became a major player on the tour with 5 wins, including the PGA Championship. That momentum seems to have carried over into this season, as he already has a win under his belt in the early going. While I like Johnson to win the Genesis Open, I think Thomas looks to be his biggest threat here.
Genesis Open Betting Odds: +2200
Phil Mickelson may be getting up there in years, but he still finds a way to come up big in the best events. This is an event that he won back to back several years ago, which is probably why he is among the favorites here. You can bet between him and Justin Thomas on our site, with Mickelson the favorite. I am all over Thomas to win that match-up.
