MLB Betting: Houston Astros vs LA Dodgers World Series Game 1
It seems like an awful long time ago since spring arrived and baseball fans around the country started to get excited about the start of the new MLB Betting season. As the weeks and months passed, those fans started to lose hope, one by one, as their teams feel out of the playoff race. We are now at the point of the year where the MLB teams have been whittled down to the two best, which means that it’s time for the World Series to get underway.
It’s not very often that we end up with the two best teams from each of the divisions in the World Series, but with the Houston Astros and LA Dodgers about to go head to head, it’s fair to say that we got it this year. This may be the best pitching match-up that we have seen in some time, especially in the opening two games, where runs may well be at a premium. Rather than looking all the way ahead, we are going to focus on Game 1 of the World Series, making some predictions as we go.

Why bet on the Houston Astros
Three years ago, Sports Illustrated ran a cover piece about how the Houston Astros were going to be the World Series champions in 2017. They spoke about the talent that was coming through the system, and how that was all going to result in the Astros winning it all within 3 years. The writer of said article looks like a genius today, as Houston are on the brink of being crowned champs. They ended the regular season with 101 wins and needed to face a pair of AL East teams in the postseason.
They blew past the Boston Red Sox in 4 games, but had to come from behind to knock off the Yankees in 7 games. Jose Altuve has been the driving force for Houston, batting .400 and hammering in 5 HR in the postseason. While Justin Verlander has been stealing the headlines in the playoffs, you cannot overlook the contribution that Dallas Keuchel has made to the cause, going 2-1, with a 2.60 ERA. He will be on the mound for Game 1.
Why bet on the LA Dodgers
It has all been a little too easy for the Dodgers thus far, as they have only dropped a single game on their way to the World Series. While this is certainly an impressive feat, we have yet to see how they perform under pressure. I would suggest that the challenge brought by the Houston Astros is going to be greater than anything they saw from the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Chicago Cubs, and it is going to be interesting to see how they deal with that.
The Dodgers will continue to lean heavily on the offensive exploits of Yasiel Puig (.414 BA) and Justin Turner, who has driven in 12 runs during the postseason. As far as pitching goes, they don’t come much better that Clayton Kershaw, who is 2-0 in the postseason with a 3.63 ERA. When he starts, the Dodgers usually win, which is why the Dodgers are -1 ½ on the run line.
Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
Game 1 may very well set the tone for the rest of the series, especially if Houston can go into LA and get a win versus the Dodgers pitching ace. I expect this to be a tight one where the Astros cover and the run total fall below the 7 currently on the board. I do think the Dodgers will get the win in Game 1, though.
