Losing the opening game of a 7-game series is not the end of the world by any stretch of the imagination, especially when you are starting the series on the road. More often than not, the road team looks to get a split out of the opening two games, as that means they seize control of home-field advantage. The Houston Astros are in that spot right now, as they head into Game 2 of the World Series versus the people’s favorite MLB pick to win the 2017 World Series.

Game 1 went about as expected, as a pair of pitching aces threw their best, with the Dodgers coming out of it with a 3-1 win and a 1-0 series lead. Once you get past that opening game and the best pitchers on either team, you start to move down the rotation, which is where pitching depth really comes into play. I would suggest that the Astros have the edge in the Game 2 pitching match-up, but they are still in as the underdogs on the road. For the neutral MLB fan, a win for the Astros in this one would make the World Series a good deal more interesting.

Why Bet on the Houston Astros

During the regular season, the Houston Astros put together 53 wins on the road, which was 5 more than they managed at home. They have not been able to carry that road success over into the postseason, though, as they have just a single win away from home, with that one coming in the opening round against the Boston Red Sox. If the Astros are to win the World Series, they are going to need to pick up at least one more win on the road, and they may not get a better chance to do so than in Game 2 of this series. If the postseason was to end now, you would have a tough time voting against Justin Verlander as the playoff MVP. He has a 4-0 record and a stunning 1.46 ERA in those games, which is why the Astros always seem like a very good bet when he is on the mound.

Why Bet on the LA Dodgers

The Dodgers served notice of their intent to win it all by hammering in a home run with the very first pitch they faced in Game 1. While it was a huge hit, the Dodgers still needed to rely on the services of Clayton Kershaw on the mound. He exorcised the demons of playoffs past by pitching an absolute gem in the 3-1 win. The Dodgers really need to make the most of their home games in this series, as they were may better in Dodger Stadium than they were on the road during the regular season.

Sure, they have breezed through the playoffs thus far, but the Astros are certainly the best team they have faced. Rich Hill, who will be on the mound for the Dodgers in this one, has pitched sparingly in the postseason and has a pair of no decisions to his name. His ERA is 3.00, but he has given up a home run in each of his appearances.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

To me, this looks like a bit of a pitching mismatch, which is why I like the Astros to even up this series. I think it will be another game that is on the lower side in terms of runs scored, though, so look at the UNDER.
