Bet on the NBA Playoffs As Harden, Rockets, Look to Dispatch Mitchell, Feisty Jazz
Make no mistake about it NBA roundball betting enthusiasts, the feisty Utah Jazz and gifted rookie Donovan ‘Spyda’ Mitchell clearly have a bright future in front of them no matter what happens over the remainder of their second-round playoff series against James Harden and the top-seeded Houston Rockets as they get set for Game 5 on Tuesday night.
With that said, the end of the line looks near for a Jazz team that clearly needs a couple of more weapons against the loaded Rockets. If you’re looking to find out if the Jazz can either pull off the outright win or cover the chalk as huge, double-digit road dogs, then let’s get to me expert NBA playoffs pick on this matchup.
What: Utah Jazz (53-39) at Houston Rockets (72-19)
When: Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at 8:00 PM
Where: Toyota Center
The Line: Houston Rockets -12½ -110 | -1100 | U 207½ -110
Utah was sitting pretty following their stunning 116-108 Game 2 win in Houston last Wednesday. Unfortunately, things didn’t go very well for them in their two home games in this series as they lost Game 3 113-92 on Friday and followed that up with a humbling 100-87 loss on Sunday.
After being held to just 10 points in Game 3, Mitchell bounced back with a team-high 25 points in game 4, but he shot just 8 of 24 from the field to get there before fouling out. Joe Ingles added 15 points and Rudy Gobert had 11 points and 10 rebounds, but no other players scored in double figures in the loss. The Jazz shot just 38.6 percent from the field and 24.1 percent from beyond the arc (7-for-29).
“We missed 22 shots at the rim,” Utah coach Quin Snyder said. “We had our chances and didn’t convert. Some of them were contested. Some of them were open. You’re not going to get any better shot.”
Houston got a team-high 27 points from Chris Paul to go along with a surprising 12 rebounds and six assists from the future Hall of Famer. James Harden added 24 points in the while blossoming center Clint Capela added 12 points and 15 rebounds. Paul drained a bunch of mid-range jump shots in the win, which he said were virtual layups for him.
“I wasn’t joking about that,” Paul said of his layup comment. “If (Rudy) Gobert’s going to back, that’s what I’m going to shoot.”
“Chris is shooting those shots like a layup,” Harden said. “He was extremely aggressive tonight, which we need from him.”
While I absolutely love Donovan ‘Spyda’ Mitchell and I genuinely believe he could and maybe should win the Rookie of the Year award, the fact of the matter is that Houston has too much firepower, even for a really good defensive team like Utah, to keep up with.
The Rockets won Game 1 by 14 points, Game 3 by a whopping 21 points and Game 3 by 13 points. I’m not real fond of the high point spread, but I like Houston to narrowly cover the chalk in their Game 5 closeout contest at home.
The Jazz are just 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall and 1-7 ATS in their last eight games against Houston while, the Rockets have gone 5-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record, 5-2 ATS in their last seven Conference Semifinals games and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
Pick: Houston -12½
