NBA Duo for Weekend: San Antonio Spurs at Oklahoma City Thunder & Cleveland Cavaliers at Los Angeles Lakers
It’s a busy weekend, as always, in the NBA, with several big games that could have an impact on the overall standings set to go. We are going to take a quick look at a pair of weekend games that you can catch on NBATV.
We will start out with the Saturday night game that sees the San Antonio Spurs go into Oklahoma City to face the Thunder for the second time this week. We will also be taking a look at the Sunday night game, where the Cleveland Cavaliers will be on the road to face the LA Lakers. Let’s get some predictions going for these two games.
San Antonio Spurs at Oklahoma City Thunder
Over the last few years, the Spurs have become known as a team that plays defense first, making them a very difficult nut to crack. All of that went out the window in their meeting with the Thunder earlier this week, where the Spurs won a 154-147 2OT thriller. That win moved them up to the #6 seed in the Western Conference, just a single game back of the Thunder. Repeating that win on the road is going to be tough, as this is a team that has gone just 7-13 away from home. That said, they are on a nice run of form that has seen them win 7 of their last 10 games.
The loss to the Spurs now means that OKC are on a 3-game losing skid, which is seeing them begin to lose ground to the two teams ahead of them. On the positive side of things for the Thunder, they will be heading back home for this one, back to the building where they have gone 13-6 this season. OKC have won 3 of the last 4 games when they have faced the Spurs at home, so you have to like their ability to get some revenge for the earlier defeat.
It’s always tough to beat the same team twice in a row, especially when the games come so close together. I am taking OKC to win and break out of their slump.
Predicted Score: San Antonio Spurs 104 | Oklahoma City Thunder 107
Cleveland Cavaliers at Los Angeles Lakers
What a difference a year makes. The Cleveland Cavaliers, a team that dominated the East and won a championship with LeBron James in the fold is now the worst team in the NBA with the King gone. The Cavs have just 8 wins on the season and are in the midst of an 11-game losing skid. If there is good news here, it is that they will not have to face LeBron, who is still out with an injury, but that is not likely to matter much to a team that has just 3 wins on the road this season.
You have to give a little bit of credit to the Lakers for continuing to fight as they battle some serious injury issues. They have now won 2 games in a row, but they are still just 2-5 without James in the line-up. Home court has been pretty good to the Lakers this season, as they are 14-8 at Staples Center. The Lakers were made to fight for their win when they faced the Cavaliers earlier this season, coming away with a 109-105 road win in that won.
While just 4 points separated these two in their earlier meeting, I have a feeling that this one could be a little more lopsided.
Predicted Score: Cleveland Cavaliers 101 | Los Angeles Lakers 117
