The week of Thanksgiving is always one of the busiest in the world of sports, and while the NBA take the day off on the holiday, the schedule for the rest of the week is still jam-packed. It has been a fantastic start to the season, especially in the Western Conference, where the #1 and the #8 seed are separated but just 2 games.
We are probably going to see some separation as the season progresses, but let’s enjoy it while we can. For this piece, we are going to focus on the games early in the week, so let’s look at the top games on tap over the next few days.
Boston Celtics at Charlotte Hornets – Monday
What: Boston Celtics (9-7) at Charlotte Hornets (7-8)
When: Monday, November 19, 2018, 7:00 PM ET
W️here: Spectrum Center, Charlotte, NC
The Celtics, one of the favorites to win the East, are still having some problems finding their consistency in the early going. They are currently sitting down in the #5 spot, 3 ½ games back of the Toronto Raptors who lead the conference. Boston will head out on the road to start the new week, going against a Charlotte Hornets team that are just a game and a half behind the Celtics right now. It’s never easy to go on the road and get the win, but the Celtics have had Charlotte’s number in recent seasons, winning 7 in a row. I like them to win again here.
Denver Nuggets at Milwaukee Bucks – Monday
What: Denver Nuggets (10-6) at Milwaukee Bucks (11-4)
When: Monday, November 19, 2018, 8:00 PM ET
W️here: Fiserv Forum, Milwaukee, WI
The Denver Nuggets currently find themselves in as the #6 seed in the Western Conference, but with things being so tight there, they are only 1 game out of the top spot. They have a very tough start to the new week, as they will be on the road to face a Milwaukee Bucks team that are a game out of first place in the Eastern Conference. The Nuggets have been better at home than on the road this season and are playing .500 ball away from home. I think they are in trouble against a Bucks team currently sporting a 7-1 record on home court.
Portland Trail Blazers at New York Knicks – Tuesday
What: Portland Trail Blazers (11-5) at New York Knicks (4-13)
When: Tuesday, November 20, 2018, 7:30 PM ET
W️here: Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
We all somewhat expected the Warriors and Rockets to be going head to head at the top of the Western Conference this season, but it’s actually a bit of a free for all there right now. It is, in fact, the Portland Trail Blazers sitting in the top spot, and they will be looking to stay there when they hit the road to face the New York Knicks on Tuesday night. While the Trail Blazers have done their best work on the home court, they do still have a winning record on the road, which they should improve upon with a win over the Knicks, who have just 4 wins on the season.
Los Angeles Lakers at Cleveland Cavaliers – Wednesday
What: Los Angeles Lakers at Cleveland Cavaliers
When: Wednesday, November 21, 2018, 8:00 PM ET
W️here: Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland, OH
The prodigal son will return on Wednesday night, as LeBron James makes his first appearance in Cleveland after leaving the Cavaliers to sign with the Lakers in the summer. We will all be watching this one see what sort of reception he gets, although it would be surprising if it were anything other than welcoming. The Cavaliers have been brutal this season and are up against a Lakers team that has won 7 of their last 10 games. This should be a comfortable win for the Lakers.
