If you had placed a wager on which two teams would be sitting atop the Eastern and Western Conferences in the NBA at the quarter point of the season, and you had picked the Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets, you would likely be cashing out a very nice ticket right about now. The general consensus was that the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers would once again be dominant, but the teams that have contested the last two NBA Finals are currently looking up at the leaders. There is still plenty of time for the status quo to be restored, and it may start this week, with some big games on the NBA schedule. Let’s look at a few that hold NBA Betting Value.
— NBA (@NBA) November 27, 2017
Detroit Pistons at Boston Celtics – Monday
Not only the best game on the Monday night schedule, this may also be the best one on the NBA docket all week, as it features number 1 against number 2 in the East. The Boston Celtics have been about as close to unstoppable as it gets this season, going 18-3 so far, which includes and 8-1 home record. The Pistons are off to a solid start at 12-6, but their best outings have come in non-conference games, as they are just 6-5 versus teams in the East. A good match-up, but one that you would expect the Celtics to win.
Washington Wizards at Minnesota Timberwolves – Tuesday
The Celtics have a huge lead in the East right now, but things are incredibly tight in the race taking place behind them. The Washington Wizards are currently in the #7 spot with a 10-9 record, but a win or two could take them up as high as 2nd. Things are just as tight in the West, where the 12-8 Timberwolves are just 3 ½ games out of the lead in the conference. The Wizards are .500 at home, while Minnesota is at .500 on the road, so something has to give here.
Indiana Pacers at Houston Rockets – Wednesday
At 11-9 on the year, the Indiana Pacers are in the playoff hunt early on, but given how tight things are in the East, they perhaps need to be a little better than their 6-4 record in the last 10 games. This will be a tough one for the Pacers, but they are a game above .500 on the road thus far. The Houston Rockets are perhaps something of a surprise at the top in the West, but they have been red-hot of late, going 9-1 in their last 10 games. The Rockets are a little more vulnerable at home, where they are currently 6-3.
Milwaukee Bucks at Portland Trail Blazers – Thursday
The Bucks are on the outside looking in at the top eight in the East, but they are by no means too far adrift at this point. They are at 9-9, and basically just a game out of the #7 seed. The Bucks have a winning record against teams from the West this season, so may well like their chances. The Trail Blazers are currently sitting in the #5 spot in the Western Conference with a 12-8 record, and have been solid at home at 7-4.
Charlotte Hornets at Miami Heat – Friday
Certainly not the best match-up on the NBA schedule this week, but one that is important for Charlotte, even at this relatively early stage of the season. The Hornets are already 3 games under .500 this season and have just 3 wins in their last 10 games. They may start to lose touch with the playoff pack of this trend continues, and the Miami Heat at #8 in the East are the team they need to catch. The Heat have a losing record at home, while the Hornets are a woeful 1-8 on the road.
