The NFL Divisional Round is now in the books, and it has to be said that it was one of the most exciting, not to mention surprising weekends of the season. The final four teams are now set in stone, and that means that we are now just days away from the Conference Championship Games. The match-up in the AFC, which we will look at in-depth in a separate piece, is not what a lot of people expected, but the NFC has played out as per the seedings, with the #1 ranked Philadelphia Eagles hosting the #2 ranked Minnesota Vikings. It could all have been very different, though, had it not been for a dramatic final play in Minnesota, which we will get to shortly. Both of these teams have relied heavily on defense in the postseason, as both are playing with someone at QB other than the usual starter. Case Keenum and Nick Foles have played their part in getting their teams one step closer to the Super Bowl, and it is going to be interesting to see how they match up when they go head to head this coming Sunday in Philly. The Vikings are ahead in the 2018 NFC Conference Championship odds by 3 ½ point favorites, with the point total set at 38.

Why bet on the Minnesota Vikings

It looked for a moment as though the Vikings were going to fall to the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional Round, as the Saints scored very late in that one to take the lead. It looked like an impossible task for the Vikings, who needed to march the length of the field in less than 30 seconds. It all came down to one final play, and it was Keenum who connected with Diggs on an improbable 61-yard TD pass for the win.

It was certainly breathless stuff, and it was a different way of winning for a team that has been so reliant on defense this season. Case Keenum has been very good in relief, but it has been that D that has dominated, particularly against the run. The road should not worry the Vikings, as they have won 6 of their last 7 away from home, and have covered the spread in 5 of their last 6. That said, they are just 1-7 SU and ATS in their last 8 visits to Philly.

Why bet on the Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles had to survive a late scare against the Atlanta Falcons in the Divisional Round to score the 15-10 win and move on to the NFC Championship Game. The Falcons had the ball in the red zone with time running out in the game, and Matt Ryan missed Julio Jones in the end zone on the 4th down attempt, killing any chance of a win. The Eagles were probably deserving of the win in that one, as they were consistently good on the defensive side of the football throughout. The much-maligned Nick Foles was not spectacular by any means, but was confident enough to make a few big plays when he needed to and steered clear of mistakes that the Falcons could have capitalized on. Home field is huge for the Eagles, as they have won 10 of their last 11 games at Lincoln Financial, and are also 6-2 ATS in their last 8 there.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

This is probably going to be a close one, with the team that makes the fewest mistakes the most likely to move on. If it comes down to the QB needing to make a big play, then my money is on Keenum and the Vikings.
