The NFC playoff picture is exactly as you would hope it would be at this stage of the season, which is to say that it’s about as clear as mud. It is beginning to look as though 10 wins is going to be the mark that teams will need to reach just to get into the Wild Card, which is bad news for a few of the teams on the outside looking in.

Complete 2017 College Bowl Schedule

The Detroit Lions are one of those teams, and they now know that it is the Wild Card that is their only way in, as the Minnesota Vikings have all but locked up the NFC North. The Lions will play in one of the two Saturday games on the schedule in Week 15, and they will do it at home against a divisional rival in the Chicago Bears, who are proving to be a tougher out than we all imagined they would be. There is always a lot of pride on the line in these divisional match-ups, but for the Lions, it means a whole lot more, as they need the win to stay in the playoff picture. The NFL Week 15 odds have the Lions at  -5 ½ points, with the point total set at 44.

Why bet on the Chicago Bears

The 4-9 Chicago Bears made it clear that they were looking to the future when they installed rookie Mitch Trubisky in the QB position in the early part of the season. The young man has made some rookies mistakes, which you expect, but he has also very much looked the part over the last two weeks, even more after his brilliant performance vs Cincinnati on Week 14.

He completed about 79% of his passes, hitting 2 TD strikes and steering clear of INT’s. His passer rating has been 117.2 and 112.4 over the past two games, with his best performance of the year coming against the Bengals last weekend, when he threw for 271 yards and looked very confident while doing so. The 33-7 win for the Bears in Week 14 gave this team a much-needed boost, as it brought a 5-game losing skid to a halt. Chicago is just 1-8 SU in their last 9 games in Detroit, although they have gone 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 at Ford Field.

Why bet on the Detroit Lions

Every time it looks as though the Lions are going to fall out of the playoff picture, they manage to come up with a win. They had dropped to .500 after back to back losses but got up to 7-6 on the season with a gutsy 24-21 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last weekend. This is a team that knows that there is really no more margin for error, especially when you consider the records of the teams ahead of them in the playoff race.

They will also be well aware that Aaron Rodgers is coming back for the Packers, who just happens to be one of the teams that the Lions will need to pass if they are to make it into the postseason. Once again, this team will go as Matthew Stafford does, as he has been the difference maker on the Lions all season long. Detroit is just 2-4 SU and ATS at home this season, but have dominated Chicago in their recent visits.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Lions need this one to stay alive in the playoff race, and if that doesn’t serve as inspiration to go out and play well, I don’t know what will. I like the Lions to win and cover, but I think the point total will fall UNDER.

Predicted Score: Chicago Bears 16 Detroit Lions 17
