NFL Duo of Action: Broncos Vs 49ers & Eagles Vs Cowboys
The Denver Broncos will look to stay hot when they host the reeling San Francisco 49ers in a Week 14 Inter-Conference clash that looks more like a mismatch waiting to happen than anything. In the Lone Star State, the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles will hook up in a huge NFC East divisional battle that will almost certainly go a long way toward determining the winner of the wide-open NFC East.
If you’re in need of some expert betting assistance, then let’s get to my pair of Week 14 picks right now with our NFL Duo of Action.
Denver Broncos at San Francisco 49ers
The Broncos are heating up at just the right time. Denver has won three straight including their convincing 24-10 smackdown win over Cincinnati on Sunday. Rookie running back Phillip Lindsay rushed for a career-high 157 yards and two touchdowns to lead the way to victory while Case Keenum passed for 151 yards with one TD pass. Now, the Broncos are looking to finish strong. Denver averages 23.0 points per game (17th) while allowing just 21.8 points per game defensively (11th).
“Four games left, and they’ve got to be our best four,” linebacker Von Miller said. “We took a long way to get there, and there’s still a long way to go.”
San Francisco has lost three straight and nine of their last 10 games including their embarrassing 43-16 beatdown loss against Seattle this past weekend. Quarterback Nick Mullens passed for a fantastic 414 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, but the Niners allowed Russell Wilson to toss four TD passes in the loss. Cornerback Richard Sherman saw his return to Seattle ruined by Wilson’s fantastic performance. San Francisco averages just 21.2 points per game (22nd) while giving up 28.0 points per contest defensively (29th).
“I’m a ballplayer and at the end of the day the field is the same length and everything else is the same,” Sherman said. “You just go out there and play your game and try to give your team the best chance to win, and unfortunately we didn’t get the win today.”
• Broncos are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games on grass.
• Broncos are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS win.
• Broncos are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games in Week 14.
• 49ers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games.
• 49ers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in Week 14.
• 49ers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on grass.
The Broncos are the super easy pick to win this contest and cover the chalk as a stunning 5.5-point road favorite. Denver has gone 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall while the 49ers have gone 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The red-hot Broncos cruise to victory in this one!
Predicted Score: Denver Broncos 31 | San Francisco 49ers 7
Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys
The Eagles have won two straight to keep their playoff hopes alive and come into this contest off a convincing 28-13 win over Washington on Monday night to cover the spread as a 5.5-point home favorite. Carson Wentz passed for 306 yards with two touchdowns and one interception ad veteran running back Darren Sproles added a touchdown run. Wentz returned to his pre-injury form of making plays outside the pocket for the first time since returning from last season’s torn ACL in Week 3.
“Anytime he can extend plays with his legs, he’s such a great athlete, that’s an advantage to the offense,” head coach Doug Pederson said. “Being able to do that allows us to stay on the field. He’s gifted in doing that. It comes naturally to him.”
Philadelphia averages 21.5 points per game (21st) while allowing 22.2 points per game to rank an encouraging 12th defensively in points allowed.
Dallas enters this contest on a nice roll, having won four straight games including their super-impressive 13-10 win over previously incendiary New Orleans on Thursday. Dak Prescott passed for 248 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions, but it was the Cowboys’ defense that got the job done by shutting down Drew Brees and the Saints’ explosive offense. Dallas held Brees to a mind-boggling 127 passing yards with one TD pass and one interception.
“Everybody knew it. We had to keep the ball away from Brees,” Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones said. “We needed to play this kind of game. I must tell you, the defense played beyond my expectations. They played like a championship defense.”
The Cowboys average 20.6 points per game (24th) while limiting the opposition to just 18.6 points per game defensively (2nd).
• Eagles are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up win of more than 14 points.
• Eagles are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
• Eagles are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win.
• Eagles are 1-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
• Cowboys are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following an SU and ATS win.
• Cowboys are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games in December.
• Cowboys are 4-12-2 ATS in their last 18 games in Week 14.
Philadelphia has won two straight, but to be honest about it, I’m not very impressed. The Birds barely got past the Giants two weeks ago and they didn’t look overly impressive in beating a Washington Redskins team that started Colt McCoy – before turning to completely incompetent veteran Mark Sanchez when McCoy got injured.
For me, Dallas has been far more impressive in beating the Falcons, Redskins, and Saints the last three weeks. Oh, did I forget to mention that Dallas’ four-game winning streak started with a 27-20 road win over Philly back in Week 10?
For this Week 14 rematch, I like Dallas to complete the regular season sweep over Philadelphia because of their stupendous defense. The Eagles have been wildly inconsistent all season long and again – I’m not impressed with their last two wins. While the road team in this series has gone 11-3 ATS in the last 14 meetings and the Eagles are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road dates against the Cowboys.
Dallas has gone 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games against their NFC East counterparts while the favorite in this series has gone 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings. Point blank…I like Dallas to win and cover!
