After a crazy Wild Card Weekend, we are now officially down to just 8 teams with a shot at winning the Super Bowl this season. If the Wild Card games showed us anything, it is that the NFC looks to be totally wide open this year, as any of the 4 remaining teams have a legitimate shot at representing the conference in the championship game. The Philadelphia Eagles have been up among the favorites for weeks now, but their quest to be Super Bowl Champions is in serious doubt after losing QB Carson Wentz for the season. Yes, they will have home-field advantage throughout the postseason, but the path that they are going to need to take is a tough one, and it starts this coming Saturday with the revitalized Atlanta Falcons coming to town. The Falcons are a team that feels as though they have something to prove after their collapse in the Super Bowl last season, and they showed that they are up to the task with a big win on the road in LA in the Wild Card. The Falcons are in as a 3-point favorite in the latest NFL playoff odds, with the point total set at 41 ½.

Why bet on the Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons proved last weekend that style points mean nothing when it comes to winning in the playoffs. Their 26-13 win over the LA Rams was about as ugly as it gets, but at this stage of the season, it really doesn’t matter how you get the job done. The Rams looked like a team that was a little bit nervous about being in the playoffs, and a couple of huge errors in the first-half had them playing a game of catch-up all night long. The Falcons never looked to be in any real danger after establishing the lead, and while the offense did not exactly light things up, the defense did a nice job of holding Jared Goff and the passing game in check. With that win, the Falcons moved to 6-3 SU on the road this season, although they are just 3-6 ATS in those games. Philadelphia has been a nightmare location for Atlanta in recent years, as they are just 1-7 SU in their last 8 visits there.

Why bet on the Philadelphia Eagles
Much has been made of the loss of Carson Wentz and how that might affect the playoff hopes of the Philadelphia Eagles. You can certainly understand the concern after Philly finished out the regular season with a truly awful 6-0 loss to the Cowboys, but you also need to wonder how much of that was down to not wanting to lose anyone else after the #1 spot in the NFC had already been clinched. Nick Foles is a serviceable back-up B, but is he the man that is going to get this team to the promised land? That remains to be seen. It is worth remembering that the Eagles have a balanced attack, as they average 132 YPG on the ground this season, so they may not need to rely on Foles’ arm. Philly is 7-1 SU at home this season, going 5-3 ATS in those 8 games.
Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
There are a lot of people thinking that this one might be a blowout for the Falcons, but I am going with the minor upset here by taking the Eagles to win in a close one.
