There was always a very good chance that the road to the Super Bowl in the AFC was going to run through Foxboro, as that is the path that it has taken for many years now. The biggest question being posted ahead of this weekend was about which team would be making the trip to face New England. Most saw it as a bit of a foregone conclusion, as it seemed that the Pittsburgh Steelers were the one team in the conference who might be able to take down the current Super Bowl champions. That meeting will not be happening, though, as it was the Jacksonville Jaguars who waltzed into Heinz Field and took down the mighty Steelers for the second time this season. It will now be the Jaguars who will be heading to Foxboro to face the champions, and they will be doing so as a rather large underdog, just as they were in Pittsburgh in the Divisional Round. As for the Patriots, they opened the AFC Championship Odds as -9 ½ point home favorite, with the point total set at 46 ½.

Why bet on the Jacksonville Jaguars

All we have heard this season when talk has turned to the Jacksonville Jaguars is how they cannot hope to compete with Blake Bortles at QB. While Bortles has certainly had issues with consistency, he has managed to come up with big plays at times when his team really needed it. He was held to just 85 yards passing in the Wild Card Game versus the Buffalo Bills, yet managed 88 yards on the ground, with many of those runs digging his team out of a hole. He was much better against the Steelers, relying on his arm more than his legs, whilst also steering clear of the big mistakes that have plagued him during his time in the league. He needed to be good, as the defense, which was among the best in the business this season, gave up 42 points to the Steelers. They will need to get back to their best if they are to get past the Patriots this weekend. The Jags have had no joy on the road versus the Patriots, and have only covered once in their last 6 visits.

Why bet on the New England Patriots

The New England Patriots got off to a slow start in their Divisional Round Game versus the Tennessee Titans, going down early on, but they eventually rolled to a very comfortable win. That particular game perfectly sums up the season for the Patriots, as they stumbled out of the gate a little before heading into cruise control. The talk at the moment is about a rift between Kraft, Belichick, and Brady, but if there are any issues there, it is certainly not carrying over to the field. The Patriots are now 12-1 SU in their last 13 games, as well as being 5-0 SU and ATS in their last 5 games on home field. The last time these two met on the field, the Pats destroyed the Jags 51-17 at Foxboro, so it’s not really a surprise to see them listed as heavy favorites to move on to yet another Super Bowl.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

You need to give the Jacksonville Jaguars credit for making it to this point, but I just don’t see any way they go into Foxboro and beat the champs, although I also thought they were in for a beating in Pittsburgh.

Predicted Score: Jacksonville Jaguars 16 New England Patriots 27
