New York Giants (1-5)

The G-Men (1-5 SU, 2-4 ATS) didn’t look good at all in their humbling 34-13 against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles last weekend. Well, let me retract that a bit. All of the Giants, except rookie running back Saquon Barkley, looked pedestrian at best. Barkley however, has super stardom written all over him.

While Eli Manning was an uninspiring 24 of 43 for 281 yards with no touchdowns and one interception, Barkley was absolutely phenomenal in rushing for 130 yards and one touchdown on just 13 carries while adding nine receptions for an additional 99 yards to narrowly miss out on becoming the first player in franchise history with a 100-yards rushing and receiving performance in the same game.

“We didn’t do anything well enough to win tonight,” Giants coach Pat Shurmur said. “Credit Philadelphia. Good football team.”

In Manning’s defense, he was under immense pressure from Philly’s front seven from the outset. The two-time Super Bowl winner was sacked him four times and hit 13 other times.

“We want to get after the passer every week,” coach Doug Pederson said. “These games are battles. It all comes down to which team gets after the passer. We hit Eli and put him on the ground. That was big.”

Atlanta Falcons (2-4)

The Falcons (2-4 SU,2-4 ATS) were desperate to snap a three-game skid heading into their Week 6 matchup against Tampa Bay and they managed to come up with a huge, probably, postseason-saving 34-29 win over the Bucs as Matt Ryan passed for 355 yards and three touchdowns in the high-scoring shootout. The Falcons (2-4) scored on their first three possessions of the game and held on to stop a furious comeback attempt to avoid their first 1-5 start since 2007.

“It was all hands on deck,” Atlanta coach Dan Quinn said.

Ryan’s trio of touchdown passes gave him 274 in his career, passing the legendary Hall of Famer, Joe Montana for 16th place on the career list.

“Obviously it’s very special any time your name is brought up with Joe’s,” Ryan said. “But I’m more excited about the win.”

Expert Pick and Prediction

I’m going to get right to the point with my expert ATS pick on this Week 7 matchup by saying that I like Atlanta to win and cover the spread with room to spare for several reasons. First, the Falcons still have an explosive offense that averages 27.8 points per game. Next, the Giants just aren’t very good offensively and it’s because they have an awful offensive line. Third…the Falcons are playing at home and last but not least, Matt Ryan and company are desperate.

Atlanta has gone 5-1 ATS in their last six Monday Night Football contests and 9-2 ATS after rushing for less than 90 yards in their previous game. The Giants have gone 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Monday Night Football games, 6-16 ATS in their last 22 games after allowing more than 30 points in their previous games and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games against their NFC counterparts. This one is a near lock NFL betting buffs!
