NHL Game for Wednesday: Colorado Avalanche at Calgary Flames
After snapping an ugly losing streak the last time out, the struggling Colorado Avalanche will look to record consecutive victories by getting upset over the Calgary Flames when the two teams square off in their mid-week matchup on NHL Wednesday Night. With the Flames looking to extend their own winning ways, let’s find out who’s going to get the win in this one!
Colorado has gone 3-5-2 over their last 10 games and the Avalanche snapped their uninspiring six-game losing streak by smacking the New York rangers senseless in their 6-1 win on Friday. Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen both scored power-play goals in the first period to lead the way to victory.
“The way we’ve been struggling lately it feels so good to get a win,” defenseman Tyson Barrie said.
Colorado averages an impressive 3.4 goals per game to rank seventh in scoring while giving up 3.0 goals per game defensively (19th). The Avalanche are an encouraging 11-8-2 on the road this season.
Calgary has gone 5-3-1 over their last 10 games while winning two straight and four of their last five games overall. The Flames took out Chicago 4-3 on Monday night as Johnny Gaudreau scored a pair of goals and David Rittich made 32 saves to get the win.
“It was a good 24 hours, to watch the Eagles win and then get a big win here in Chicago, too,” said Gaudreau who hails from New Jersey. “It was a nice 24 hours.”
Calgary averages a stellar 3.6 goals per game to rank third in scoring while limiting the opposition to 2.8 goals per game defensively to rank an encouraging 10th in goals allowed. The Flames have gone 12-4-2 at home this season.
While Colorado has compiled a surprising winning road record so far this season, I’m going to advise NHL bettors everywhere to back the Calgary Flames to hold down the fort at home against an Avalanche team they are better than at both ends of the ice. Colorado has gone an uninspiring 12-39 in their last 51 road games against a team with a winning record and just 1-7 in their last eight meetings against Calgary. On the flip side of the coin, the Flames have gone 4-1 in their last five, 8-2 in their last 10 games against a team with a losing record and 7-2 in their last nine games against teams from the Central Division. With Calgary also going a perfect 4-0 in their last four home dates against Colorado, I think it’s a no-brainer to back the Flames.
Predicted Score: Colorado Avalanche 2 | Calgary Flames 4
