Expert Predictions for Houston Texans in 2017
According to Richard Janvrin from Bleacher Report, the Houston Texans did one really, really good thing this year, and that we can all agree on: they got rid of Brock Osweiler. That gives them an opportunity to bring in a completely new quarterback, and perhaps one that can carry the team. They might not do great this season, but they will at least be able to present themselves with dignity both on and off the field.
The ‘leaving’ of Osweiler should have allowed the Texans to bring in Tony Romo, assuming that the Dallas Cowboys let him out of his contract. Well, like many other plans, that one didn’t exactly execute properly. Romo was released by the Cowboys, but he signed with CBS. Well, that leaves the Texans with a serious problem during the 2017 season: they’re going to need a quarterback. Hopefully, that’s a problem that they’re going to be able to resolve by September 10th when they take on the Jaguars, because if not, it’s going to be a really short game. Don’t worry, they’re picking at 25 in this year’s draft, so they could get Colin Kaepernick.
They’re building on a pretty solid legacy, having a quality defense last season. Right now we’re looking at a return of J.J. Watt, but the team did lose A.J. Bouye, along with Quintin Demps and John Simon. That leaves them without a cornerback, safety, and linebacker. When you add that in to the loss of their quarterback, you can see that they have a pretty huge vacuum going, and it might cost them in the 2017 season if they don’t choose their new players carefully during the draft. They’re picking 25 though, so there’s a strong chance they’ll be scarping the bottom of the barrel.
Now, let’s go ahead and sum that all up: The Houston Texans have no quarterback, a horrid defense line, and a lot of holes in their defense. Well, none of that went as planned, did it? All in all, this could be really rough season for the Texans.
Houston Texans Toughest Game – Week 3: New England Patriots
There are a lot of things that could go wrong during Week 3 and it’s not exactly unprecedented, the Patriots have given New England a serious thrashing over the years, including last season. They’re going to have to bring their A game if they want to come out of this alive, even though they’re definitely not going to come out without a scratch.
Make it or Break it Game: Week 13: Tennessee Titans
Inside their division, the Tennessee Titans are something to see in AFC South, so how are they going to fare when they go into Tennessee looking for a win? If they manage to take that win, then it’s going to make everyone see the Texans in a completely different light but let’s face it, they’re probably not going to take home any trophies, so to speak. They did, after all, lose 24–30 last year, and while you might say that’s a close game, close just doesn’t cut it in the NFL.
The Patriots May Win at New England
Okay, let’s be perfectly honest for a moment: the Texans are due for a win against the Patriots. We mentioned earlier that they’ve been manhandled by New England for some time, and with that being the case, we, along with many others, would really like to see a win. According to Jerome Solomon of Chron, the team really has a chance this year, and quite honestly, he’s probably right. Then again, it could go either way, based on past experience.
Decoud Won’t Make the Draft Pick
Let’s humor the idea that Decoud will make the draft, just for a moment. He’s a fifth–round pick and he’s a cult favorite at best. He can play cornerback and safety alright, but he has a lot of competition when it comes to snaps. Assuming Decoud makes the roster, he’ll probably be seeing a lot of the bench, and if he plays, it probably won’t be on defense.
The Houston Texans aren’t a bad team, but do they have what it takes to go up agains the best the NFL has to offer? There are a few people that say no, but it really does remain to be seen. We’ll just have to wait September 10 when they take the field against the Jaguars. Until then, we’ll be making more predictions.
