Manny Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 KOs)
The now, 40-year-old Pacquiao stands 5’5½” and has a 67-inch reach. The Philippines native has recorded 39 knockouts in 69 career fights and comes into this bout having won three of his last four bouts including a seventh-round TKO win over the unheralded Lucas Matthysse in July. The win came on the heels of his controversial (Pacquiao won) unanimous decision loss against Jeff Horn in July of 2017. In each of his last four bouts since 2016, Pacquiao has still looked sharp, particularly for a guy that just turned 40. Pacquiao is still clearly well-conditioned and there are few fighters on the planet that can match his wealth of boxing experience and knowledge.
Adrien Broner (33-3-1, 1 NC, 24 KOs)
The talented Broner stands 5’6½” and hails from Cincinnati, Ohio. The 29-year-old Broner has a 69.5-inch reach and has recorded 24 knockouts in 38 career fights. Broner has gone a modest 3-1-1 over his last five fights and comes into this bout off a controversial draw against Jesse Vargas in April that most boxing observers believe Broner won. Broner is one of the most athletically gifted fighters in the world and he’s never been knocked out, suffering his only three career losses all by unanimous decision. Unfortunately, Broner isn’t always the most dedicated fighter and he can definitely lose focus from time to time.
Expert Pick and Prediction
While many boxing observers believe that the favored Manny Pacquiao is going to use his experience and superior technical skills to get past Adrien Broner in this bout, I’m going to advise you to back the younger, more athletic Broner for one good reason. I genuinely believe he’s going to take this bout as seriously as he has any in what has been a solid, but not superstar, career up until this point.
No one that has ever seen Broner fight can doubt his vast wealth of talent. The big questions surrounding the challenger coming into this title fight have always been about whether Broner would be focused from the outset or whether he’d sleepwalk through the vast majority of this bout like he did in his last two matches.
Well, I believe Broner is looking at this big-name bout as his ticket back towards the super stardom he hasn’t quite been able to grasp so far in his career. I like the four-division and former WBA welterweight champ to get the big upset in this one over a game Manny Pacquiao.
Predicted Result: Adrien Broner Via Unanimous Decision
